PROUD TO SPONSOR SVYC School Sailing Training

Seafields are proud to be sponsoring the SVYC SCHOOL SAILING PROGRAMME (Seaview Sailing Trust).

Seafields Estates are delighted to continue to support the Sea View Yacht Club Schools Sailing Programme.  This provides much-needed extracurricular sailing activities to pupils from local Isle of Wight primary schools, some of which would never have had such an opportunity otherwise.

SVYC has provided some much-needed on-the-water and classroom training to pupils from local Primary Schools in recent years.  Most of the children who take part in the activities we offer would struggle in a normal year to spend enough time interacting with their peers in an outdoor environment – even at the local recreational ground – and most also struggle financially. The pandemic has made this situation far worse – but, after the couple of extremely difficult years during the pandemic, 2021 saw the most successful year yet with at least 220 children having an amazing time learning this new sport, interacting with new friends, getting essential fresh air and exercise, and it may be that some will continue to progress with sailing and their new love and respect for the sea and our beautiful Island beaches.

Seaview Sailing Programme

The Sea View Yacht Club first started offering a programme of local school sailing around the Millenium, at the request of Lord Mottistone, the then Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight. This programme involved local school children sailing in Mermaids on a Saturday morning.  The current programme was launched in 2017 and there is often a lovely sight of colourful sails out at sea along The Duver, Seaview, opposite the boat park and training facilities. Seafields originally supported the programme, initially enabling wetsuits to be provided.

This season (2022), we are supporting a school for the entire season and will be popping down to see the progress of the children throughout their ‘training’.  Seeing the children learning new skills, enjoying the fresh sea air, gaining confidence and a new hobby … and above all having such fun … is what it’s all about!!
